At Balanced Beginnings Counselling Therapy, we offer safe, confidential, family-focused counselling therapy, helping individuals and families through every part of their parenting journey, from infertility, to conception, pregnancy, birth, postpartum, and beyond. We also offer individual counselling around issues of anxiety, depression, PTSD, stress and trauma, attachment, relationships, and life transitions, as well as small group therapy.
Our focus is on individual therapy for adults moving through the journey of parenthood. We employ an integrative therapeutic approach, drawing from such evidence-based approaches as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), internal family systems therapy (IFS), narrative therapy, person-centered therapy, EMDR, and mindfulness. Each session focuses on being present with you as you move toward and through this time of transition and discovery, guiding you as you explore who you are and who you want to be as an individual and/or as a parent.

It takes a village to raise a family, and we'd like to become part of yours. Whether you're struggling with infertility, the challenges of raising a young family while maintaining your sense of self, or anywhere in between, we are here to offer guidance, understanding, and support.
Nearly 1 in 5 mothers experience depression or anxiety during pregnancy and postpartum. Some signs to look for are: exhaustion, changes in appetite, feeling overwhelmed, extreme worry, irritability, feelings of guilt and/or hopelessness. You are not alone. You are not to blame. We can work with you to help you feel like yourself again.
One of the most significant identity changes a person can go through is becoming a new parent. The transition to this new role, this new self, is profound and nearly all-encompassing. There is a lot of truth in the old adage that the day a child is born, so too is a mother. Counselling therapy during the prenatal period can help you prepare for this tremendous change, this "matrescence".
Many individuals and couples begin their journey into parenthood with excitement and hope; however, this profound life and personal transition comes with more than its share of challenges, often leaving them feeling overwhelmed. As much as you wished for it, planned for it, and thought you were prepared, new parenthood often isn't at all what we expect, which can lead to feelings of overwhelm, guilt, and sadness. Counselling therapy during pregnancy, and/or postpartum can help you build the skills and resiliency necessary to help you become the person and the parent you want to be.
